Have you ever wanted to learn how to grow your own food? Do you have a passion for botany but no place to nurture it? Gather your best friends and grab a gardening plot and consider investing your time into the Pitzer Community Garden next semester!
Spring has arrived in the Pitzer Student Garden, and with it comes new and exciting changes. This year, the Pitzer Garden is thrilled to announce that they are revamping parts of the existing garden and launching a new community garden.
What does this entail exactly? The community garden will utilize existing beds, or plots, opening them to members of the Pitzer community for rental. As the beds are quite large, they will be available for rental in groups. Renters are free to plant whatever they desire and are encouraged to grow plants that flourish in the dry Southern California climate. Popular edible plants to grow in this region include herbs, such as sage and rosemary, mint, and chives, as well as root vegetables, tomatoes, lettuce, and beans. Although the temperature will be too high to plant come August, you can get started with planting right now in the spring! Otherwise, you can wait until the autumn months from October to December. The Pitzer Community Garden is open to all, and hopes to inspire community building and encourage students to nurse their green thumb.
